The 2013 ARRL Field Day will take place on
June 21, 22, & 23 (Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday)

Everyone is welcome to join the fun - we always need operators
helpers, or folks to just hang out for a relaxing good time!
Contact KCØHSV to join our Aloha site, or KØFEI for our Competitive site - or simply visit both locations over the weekend!

ARRL FIeld Day 2013

The objective of the ARRL's national Field Day is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field Organizations and countries within IARU Region 2. DX stations residing in other regions may be contacted for credit, but are not eligible to submit entries.

Click Here for our main information page about our Field Day operations. Most years we maintain two Field Day sites, one for those with Battleground site) and another more casual location that we fondly refer to as our "Aloha" site.

CQC is looking for a new meeting location! Help us find a new meeting location!

Our July 13th meeting will take place at the Smoky Hill Library in Centennial (just south of Aurora).

However, the Colorado QRP Club is still looking for a permanent location for its bimonthly meetings. The library works great but there's never a guarantee as to the room's availability. For many years we used to meet at the offices of Milestone Technology, which was fantastic, but they've moved on so we could really use another semi-permanent meeting location.

Please contact search committee members KIØRB or WBØJNR with your ideas and assistance!

Sota Loga Summits on the Air (SOTA) is an award scheme for radio amateurs and shortwave listeners that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas. SOTA has been carefully designed to make participation possible for everyone - this is not just for mountaineers! There are awards for activators (those who ascend to the summits) and chasers (who either operate from home, a local hilltop or are even Activators on other summits).

"Skill... Not Power!"
  • What the heck is QRP anyway? - Well, although there's really no hard and fast definition, QRP generally means to turn your transmitter power down, way down...  5 Watts output, or less, is usually considered QRP.
  • But why turn your power down? - The reasons are as varied as there are Ham operators! Some like the challenge while others simply enjoy back-to-basics and the tiny expense of using small radios over long distances.
  • Won't you join the fun? - Beginners and Old-timers all agree that QRP brings a special indescribable delight that a pair of expensive high-power transmitting finals just can't duplicate!
